A ferry ride away, Ellis Island served as the nation\u2019s main immigration station from 1892 to 1954.  Nearly 12\u202fmillion people passed through, with an estimated 40% of today\u2019s Americans tracing their roots back to this place.  Once serving as both a gateway of hope and a site of detention, Ellis Island’s meticulously restored hospital buildings and museum now invite visitors to deeply experience the personal journeys of immigrants through compelling exhibits and authentic stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 9\/11 Memorial, Honoring Strength and Renewal<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 At Ground Zero, the 9\/11 Memorial features twin reflecting pools set within the footprints of the original towers.  Designed by Michael Arad, the cascading waterfalls in each nearly one-acre void symbolize memory and loss, often likened to the River Styx.  More than 4 million visitors mourned and paid respect in its first year\u2014an enduring testament to remembrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
